Centre for Computational Linguistics: Activities
Although the Centre does not organise any teaching programmes, several of its members teach courses in formal or computational linguistics at the Leuven University in the framework of various study programs. Also mentioned here is the participation in international initiatives for course development and teaching.
The courses of the Artificial Intelligence programme are taught in English; the other ones in Dutch. The Interuniversitaire Specialisatie-opleiding is a cooperation of the four Flemish universities; the courses are taught in Dutch and take place at the home site of the lecturers. More information about these programmes can be obtained at the addresses below.

The focus of this annual two-week Summer School is the investigation of the logical and computational foundations of natural language. This interdisciplinary field of study involves linguistics, logic and computer science, and the disciplines which have emerged as a result of their interaction, such as computational linguistics, formal semantics and logical programming.
In each of these six domains the Summer School offers courses, workshops and symposia which are taught or organised by outstanding international experts, not only from Europe, but also from other continents. So far, there have been six instalments of the Summer School. The first one took place in Groningen (June 1989), the second one was organised by the Eurotra team at the KU Leuven (August 1990), and the third, the fourth, the fifth and the sixth took place in Saarbrücken (August 1991), Essex (August 1992), Lisbon (August 1993) and Kopenhagen (August 1994) respectively. The 1995 Summer School takes place in Barcelona. Attendance is usually high: about 500 participants each year, coming from all over Europe, also from Central- and Eastern Europe, and --increasingly-- also from other continents, esp. from North-America, Japan and Australia.
