Abstract
The most widely spread language engineering technology is without any doubt the spelling checkers in the word processors. In just a few years these have evolved from technologically advanced and high priced technology to an almost freely available commodity. More at the forefront of technology today are grammar and style checkers. These may not only be used to enforce grammatically correct language, but may help to create documents that are deemed of acceptable quality for publishing or for later use in other language engineering applications (such as machine translation).
